Cazenovia Children's House has cared for children in Cazenovia and the surrounding communities since 1970. As a non-profit, we work to keep rates affordable for families. We take a balanced approach to learning, building a fun educational environment where children grow socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. Children from 6 weeks of age through 5th grade are welcome here, regardless of race, gender, color, national origin, or religion.
In each room, teachers plan for the whole child, not just one skill. A morning might hold a messy art project, a story on the rug, and time outside. Children practice sharing, naming feelings, and trying things that are hard. Teachers sit at eye level, ask questions, and let children lead. Classrooms are grouped by age, from the Sunflower Room through the Lightning Room.
CCH is a fully licensed daycare facility by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services. A volunteer board of directors upholds the center's mission, vision, and values. Our teachers hold educations ranging from a BS in education to CDA credentials in early childhood education to high school diplomas with many years of experience. Sierra Neil, executive director, holds a BS in Psychology and Human Services with more than 10 years of experience.
What you notice in practice
Teachers get down at eye level and follow the child's lead. They notice what a child is working on and offer the next small step. Children spend part of the day in small groups, where a teacher can watch and respond to each one. Our teachers' educations range from a BS in education to CDA credentials in early childhood education to many years of experience.
Rooms are set up so children can choose: a book corner, blocks, art, a table for small projects. Materials sit low, where a child can reach them. The day moves between active and quiet stretches, with meals and rest built in. Weekly menus are posted on the door, and we cater to allergies and dietary restrictions.
How we work with families
Families are valued and respected here, and your child's success is our priority. At pickup, teachers share how the day went: what your child ate, who they played with, what made them laugh. Weekly menus are posted on the door so you know what your child ate each day. Teachers and the director are glad to answer questions as they come up.
Starting care is a big change for a child and for you. We serve families with children from 6 weeks through 5th grade, and we take the first weeks at your child's pace. Teachers learn your child's cues and routines, and you can call or ask questions during the day. Please ask us how settling in works for your child's age.
